Job Description
SUMMARY: This is experienced, skilled work with supervisory and management skills in equipment and machinery maintenance and installation at water-wastewater treatment plants, wastewater collector systems, and water distribution systems under the general supervision of the Area Supervisor. An employee in this class performs maintenance, repair, and installation on specialized equipment and machinery associated with pumping the water-wastewater treatment area and underground piping. Occasionally assists in operation of a water-wastewater plant. Employee directly supervises all workers in the assigned area. Employee is evaluated on a project basis and by discussion and observation.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate or equivalent. Five years of experience in a position that required construction preventive maintenance of wastewater treatment plant and collection systems and water distribution systems. Two years of such experience shall be supervisory or understudying a foreman in all facets of work and periodically taking charge of small crews. Experience in the investigation and correction of I & I problems preferred. Trenchless technology certification desirable. Completion of college level courses preferred. Water, wastewater treatment, or distribution or collection license desirable. Possession of a valid Driver’s License and eligibility for coverage under the County’s motor vehicle insurance policy. (A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the mechanical equipment and machinery of a water-wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, pipe systems and related appurtenances; of the materials, equipment and tools used in the maintenance and repair of same; working knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions associated with this line of work. Experience with the construction and repair of underground utilities. This includes construction techniques and safety. Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications. Ability to carry out a preventive maintenance schedule for machinery and equipment; to detect malfunctioning equipment and to take corrective action; to follow and give oral and written instructions; to take and maintain accurate records; assign and supervise employees to operate equipment necessary for the correct performance of the position. Able to perform manual labor tasks requiring physical strength and endurance at times under adverse weather conditions. Ability to pass the physical examination which may be required for this position. Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
