Located along the eastern edge of Allegany County, Locust Post Brewery welcomes visitors into the area’s vast world of craft beer and outdoor recreation. The brewery's 26-acre property creates a unique farmstead-style experience, hosting a regionally-recognized disc golf course that attracts visitors across the tri-state area.
Denise and Tony Cornwell, owners of Locust Post Brewery, were inspired to include a course on their property during the establishment's early development phases. Denise Cornwell shares, “It’s a great day when you can enjoy a beer and play a round of disc golf.”
Following the completion of the main brewery building in 2021, Denise and Tony shifted their focus toward incorporating a course to complement their visitors' experience. Cultivation Disc Golf, located in nearby Frederick, Maryland, designed a nine-basket course for Locust Post Brewery. The par-three course is designed for players of all skill levels — from amateurs to proficient players.
Offering a wide variety of ales, lagers, IPAs, and more, Locust Post Brewery encourages visitors to grab their beers in a special to-go tumbler and head out on the free course. Denise Cornwell adds, “We encourage anyone who is curious to go out and try the course while they are here. A lot of people realize how fun it can be. For experienced players, there are technical elements to the course, especially when you enter the wooded areas. There is something for everyone.”
The disc golf course adds to Allegany County’s rising distinction in outdoor recreation. Locust Post’s course has already gained recognition in the region and was runner-up in the 2024 Best of the Blue Ridge Annual Reader’s Choice Awards in the “Best Disc Golf Course” category.
The course is regularly used by local leagues, such as the Western Maryland Disc Golf Club and Allegany County Disc Golf, and it attracts enthusiasts from across the area. “Disc golfers are always looking for a new course to try,” said Tony Cornwell. “We get players from Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Hagerstown, and other parts of the area who come here to play and enjoy the day. They frequently come with their disc bags, play the course, and stay to drink a few beers, eat pizza, and listen to live music afterward.”
As spring and summer begin, Denise and Tony are eager to welcome more visitors looking to engage with the many open-air attractions that Allegany County is known for. “We’re one of the first exits at the eastern end of Allegany County on I-68, not far from the Pennsylvania and West Virginia state lines. A lot of people’s first touchpoint when they enter Western Maryland is Locust Post Brewery,” notes Tony Cornwell.
“We like to think of ourselves as the gateway to Allegany County,” adds Denise Cornwell. “We want to welcome everyone who comes through for the trails, canoeing on the Potomac, Tracks and Yaks, and everything else Allegany has to offer.”

“Even before disc golf, we’d have people come here for a few hours in the day, and we’d point them to other great spots around Cumberland and Frostburg,” said Tony Cornwell. “I’ve lived in Little Orleans most of my life and already know a lot of the great places to visit — outdoor and indoor — and we are more than happy to welcome them here and help them find other areas to visit in Allegany.”
Beyond disc golf, Locust Post Brewery offers visitors a connection to Western Maryland’s history through its unique architecture and use of repurposed and upcycled materials from around the area, including windows from a nearby school that Tony used to attend in third grade. As a contractor and sculpture artist, Tony has also focused on including local art throughout the brewery.

“We’ve put a lot of our heart and soul into the brewery, and the community has been so supportive,” Denise Cornwell finishes.
Visitors can also rent campsites on the land, including an upcoming renovated guest cabin, through an online rental website.
